We’re always talking about the power of fulvic and humic acid on this blog, as well as how much we love shilajit. Though we’ve alluded to the differences between AEON and shilajit a few times before, we’d like to spend some time exploring this issue in a little more depth.
Shilajit (pronounced “shee-lah-jeet”) is similar to AEON in that both of them contain fulvic and humic acid. Because of this, they both can claim therapeutic advantages and can be used to treat a range of health conditions. But this is just about the only way in which they’re similar.
Shilajit
Very simply, shilajit is a thick, tar-like material that naturally occurs in special geographical deposits around the world. Traditionally, shilajit was extracted from deposit sites in the Himalayan mountains in India and Nepal.
This dense, viscous material is usually available in solid rock or ball form, but this makes it difficult to determine exact dosages. Because shilajit is harvested seasonally, the composition of each batch varies wildly. This is not dissimilar from the “terroir” of wine – i.e. the regional terrain, climate and soil quality greatly impact the flavor of each particular vintage.
Shilajit closely resembles tar and in fact it forms in a similar way to the petroleum deposits that are tapped to extract gasoline. Petroleum tar and shilajit are both created by millions and millions of years of organic matter decomposition and the accumulated effect of eons of geological processes.
The difference is that although petroleum tar is extremely toxic, shilajit demonstrates incredible medicinal, therapeutic ad nutritional capabilities. Their origins are similar, but the final product could not be more different. This is why the practitioners of the ancient healing modalities of Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) have prized shilajit for centuries.
